National Eczema Week - The Top 5 Non-Steroid Eczema Creams

The Top 5 Non-Steroid Eczema Creams

We are supporting the National Eczema Association with raising awareness of National Eczema Week by creating a variety of content on how best to treat, manage, and understand eczema symptoms better. Too often eczema is not recognised as a serious and painful medical condition by health commissioners and policymakers.

What Is Eczema?

eczema

Eczema (also known as dermatitis) is a dry skin condition. It is a highly individual condition that varies from person to person and comes in many different forms. It is not infectious so you cannot catch it from someone else. The word eczema comes from the Greek word “ekzein”, which means “to boil”. Those with hay fever or asthma are said to be more at risk of suffering.

How Is Our Skin Affected?

If you have eczema, your skin may not produce as many fats and oils as other people and will be less able to retain water. The protective barrier is therefore not as good as it should be and it results in a damaged skin barrier. Gaps open up between the skin cells because they are not sufficiently plumped up with water.

Moisture is then lost from the deeper layers of the skin, allowing bacteria or irritants to pass through more easily. Some everyday substances contribute to breaking down the skin. Soap, bubble bath, and washing up liquid, for example, will remove oil from anyone’s skin, but if you have eczema your skin breaks down more easily, quickly becoming irritated, cracked, and inflamed.

Because it is prone to drying out and is easily damaged, skin with eczema is more liable to become red and inflamed on contact with substances that are known to irritate or cause an allergic reaction.

What Can I Do?

This is where topical treatments help. It is recommended to opt for non-steroid creams and ointments as they do not cause any rebound effects which are commonly associated with topical corticosteroids such as hydrocortisone cream. Find below our recommendations for the best eczema cream to reduce itching, flare-ups, and any other trigger symptoms of eczema patients.

Atopiclair Cream

atopliclair

Atopiclair is a fairly new, non-steroidal cream that is designed to relieve the symptoms and signs of eczema (sometimes called atopic dermatitis), allergic dermatitis (sometimes called contact dermatitis), and psoriasis.

Atopiclair is a unique, clinically proven, non-steroidal treatment that can be used during eczema flare-ups and remission phases of atopic dermatitis (eczema) to calm, restore and protect your skin. It is steroid-free, scent-free, and paraben-free, safe even for infants, and relieves itching, burning, and pain associated with the skin condition.

Clinical trials, in adults and children, have shown that Atopiclair relieves the itch and redness associated with very dry skin like eczema. These studies also demonstrated that patients using Atopiclair were significantly less likely to need a steroid treatment than patients using an emollient base cream. Shea Butter acts as a key lipid and has anti-inflammatory properties while Hyaluronic Acid provides powerful moisturising benefits.

Medik8 Ultimate Recovery

medik8 recovery

An intensely rich, restorative cream for dry, compromised, and post-treatment skin.

This effective facial cream provides intensive support for skin regeneration. It is an outstanding choice for post-procedure aftercare such as peels, skin needling, dermabrasion, and lasers but equally an excellent supplement for skin in need of special care such as eczema and rosacea.

"I went out of my way to find somewhere to leave a review for this as I am beyond impressed. I suffer from very dry and irritable skin, and it gets quite rough in some areas. This product not only soothes any irritated red or itchy patches but it made my skin smoother than any moisturiser or exfoliator I’ve ever used. I’ve also noticed considerable improvement in discolouration left from spots, and I have used so many products to try combat this! So so worth the money it solved all my problems in one and I saw improvement within days." - Dermacare Direct Customer
