What is PDRN?

PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is a regenerative DNA fragment primarily sourced from the sperm of salmon or trout. Although it may seem like a recent innovation, it has been utilized since the 1990s as a pharmaceutical solution for tissue repair, including the treatment of burns and tendon injuries. This is due to PDRN's high biocompatibility with human DNA, which allows it to promote collagen production, enhance skin elasticity, decrease inflammation, and accelerate wound healing. In recent years, it has gained immense popularity in South Korean aesthetic clinics for its skin-enhancing benefits and its ability to achieve the coveted "glass skin" appearance.

What are  PDRN’S skincare benefits?

Promotes Skin Healing: PDRN activates particular cellular receptors that enhance the healing process, improve tissue regeneration, and fortify the outer moisture barrier.

Enhances Collagen & Elasticity: It activates fibroblasts (the cells responsible for skin repair) to promote the natural synthesis of collagen and elastin, which aids in reducing fine lines and tightening the skin's appearance.

Enhances Hydration & Radiance: Topical treatments attract and restore moisture, resulting in a plump, dewy, and smooth look for dull or fatigued skin.

Fades Pigmentation: Studies suggest that it may help soothe inflammation and prevent excessive melanin production, thereby diminishing acne scars, sun spots, and redness.

In contrast to aggressive exfoliating acids or potent retinoids, PDRN operates gently from the inside and is suitable for sensitive or post-treatment skin types.

What’s the difference between PDRN injections and topical products?

If you aim to achieve the most significant results from this ingredient, dermatologists suggest opting for injectable treatments.
This is due to the fact that PDRN is made up of relatively large DNA fragments, which can significantly hinder penetration through the skin's outer layer.

The next best alternatives are PDRN topical serums and creams; however not all products  that contain  PDRN are of equal quality.
Factors such as molecular size, concentration, stability, and the delivery system are crucial. These elements greatly affect the amount of PDRN that successfully reaches the target skin cells and its overall effectiveness. It is essential for products to offer a stable delivery system that addresses the challenges posed by its large size, limited skin permeability, and vulnerability to degradation.

Who is topical PDRN good for?

Ideal if you have  dry, dehydrated, sensitive, or compromised skin, PDRN is an excellent choice. It effectively aids in barrier recovery, alleviates irritation, and addresses early signs of ageing, such as fine lines and diminished elasticity. Additionally, its regenerative and anti-inflammatory benefits make it ideal for those recovering from more invasive aesthetic procedures, including microneedling, laser treatments, and chemical peels.

Derm-approved PDRN products

If you are seeking a PDRN cream or serum, Andrea suggests considering the following: "A clearly stated source of PDRN, its concentration, and molecular profile." If the concentration is not provided, it may be too low to yield any significant results, and a lower molecular profile is typically preferred for better absorption.

Additionally, Andrea advises choosing products that have undergone human clinical studies of the final formulation, along with a comprehensive ingredient list. "Good tolerability is far more crucial than marketing assertions," she concludes.

Marini Reboot PDRN Face Serum from Marini SkinSolutions has received the 2026 POPSUGAR Must Have Award for Best Serum

Marini Reboot is among the pioneering PDRN solutions available in the professional market, formulated with a high concentration of salmon-derived PDRN (3%)  aimed at skin regeneration. It incorporates advanced rejuvenation and prejuvenation technologies to promote overall skin longevity.

The regenerative capabilities of PDRN enhance collagen and elastin production, facilitate barrier repair, and encourage cellular renewal. This supports the skin's inherent repair mechanisms, helping it recover from daily stressors, sun exposure, ageing, aesthetic procedures, and other factors.

Through the process of regenerative repair and renewal, PDRN contributes to making the skin smoother, stronger, and more resilient over time, thereby enhancing overall skin quality instead of merely masking the signs of aging. The additional rejuvenation and prejuvenation properties of squalane, sodium hyaluronate, ceramide NP, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, and various botanical extracts further improve visible wrinkle reduction and structural support, providing multi-layered, long-lasting hydration, barrier repair, and calming, supportive, and protective technologies.

In a clinical study lasting three months, led by Dr. Zoe Draelos, the Marini Reboot® PDRN Face Serum exhibited notable advancements in essential indicators of skin health. The findings revealed a 74% increase in skin hydration and a 27% decrease in transepidermal water loss (indicating an improved skin barrier), along with reduced erythema (signifying enhanced recovery), and a significant improvement in texture, radiance, elasticity, and other aspects as assessed by physicians (indicating enhanced skin regeneration). Furthermore, 100% of participants reported improved hydration and skin smoothness.

How does topical Marini Reboot™ compare to injectable PDRN treatments ("salmon sperm facials")?

Injectable PDRN provides high concentrations directly to the deep dermis during clinical treatments, whereas Marini Reboot™ is designed for everyday topical application. It features optimized, low-molecular-weight PDRN fragments along with penetration-boosting peptides and hyaluronic acid, ensuring ongoing regenerative signaling daily without the need for needles, recovery time, or clinical discomfort.
