How To Sweatproof Your Makeup During Hot Summer Days

makeup

Ensuring that your makeup stays on for more than a couple of hours during the humid, hot summer days can be a challenge, even more so now that people are continuing to wear face masks for the majority of their day.

The combination of both is not a great outcome when it comes to makeup longevity! While we can't control the weather, we can control how well and how long our makeup lasts with a handful of useful tips and advice compiled together within this blog by our makeup artists. It's easier than you may think so keep on reading to find out how.

Light Skincare & Light Textures

Depending on what you use already, you may want to switch your skincare products over to lighter textures such as water-based fluids and lotions rather than rich creams, oils, and balms. Formulas that are oil-free are a must for oily skin types to prevent adding even more oil and additional sebum production to already shiny skin.

Winter is a time for building lots of layers of skincare to keep the skin hydrated however when it comes to the warmer months, we recommend keeping your summer regime simple and minimal - just don't forget the broad spectrum SPF!

Face cream such as PCA Skin Rebalance and ZENMED Oil-Free Day Lotion are great summer swaps.

Prep Your Skin Correctly

Don't skip the primer! No matter your skin type, a makeup primer ensures longevity and prolongs wear by ensuring that your makeup has something to cling to which is especially important throughout the day of the summer months.

There are so many primers available on the market so look out for one which is mattifying or oil-absorbing to stop your makeup from melting away under the hot summer sun.

We recommend Colorescience Mattifying Perfector Face Primer SPF 20, not only does it blur pores, act as an anti-inflammatory, and mattifies but it also contains Salicylic Acid to control oil production from the sebaceous glands with each use.

Add A Powder To Your Bag

It's inevitable that, as much as there are tips and tricks to prevent it as much as possible, you are going to produce at least a little bit of shine throughout the day. Don't get caught out and make sure that you always have some powder in your handbag to touch up within an emergency.

We love Jane Iredale Powder Me Dry Sunscreen SPF 30 for its ease of use. It has a lid, a built-in brush so no need to worry about having a brush floating around at the bottom of your handbag attracting bacteria, and includes refills too. Simply buff onto your skin, focusing on the T zone, and let it do the rest of the work for you. The added sunscreen means that you can keep on top of your SPF every few hours as well.

Switch To Water-Resistant Eye Makeup

Water-resistant options are always a safer option for reliability. Nobody wants to suffer from unsightly panda eyes in humid water and hayfever season so be sure to swap over to a water-resistant mascara like Revitalash Double Ended Mascara/Primer and if you need an eyeliner then delilah Gel Brow And Eye Line will never fail you with its water-resistant formula, smudge resistance, and intense black pigment to make any eye colour pop.

Don't forget to pick up an oil-based cleansing product too to make sure your water-resistant makeup slides off easily at the end of the day.

Drop The Cream Blush

As amazing as stick cream blush is in other situations, during the summer months it will not offer you longevity as a powder blush or blush stain will. Powder formulas adhere much better to the skin which then provides longer wear time and blush stains temporarily tint the skin so you don't even need to worry about longevity!

Jane Iredale offers a range of choices and variety. Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Blush is a traditional pressed powder blusher with a buildable finish. However, blush stains are a much more modern invention and can be used across the whole complexion. We love Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip And Cheek Stain for its versability and custom colour pigments that adapt to your own skin tone.

Lock In Your Lipstick

Isn't lipstick the makeup item that we go through and replace the most?

We all know how much we have to touch up our lips due to lipstick rubbing off throughout the day by eating, drinking, or even just talking! Matte lipsticks offer all-day wearability due to their increased adherence and durability. Apply Jane Iredale Beyond Matte Lip Fixation Lip Stain in the morning and it will see you throughout the whole day.

Increase Your Water Intake

You might be wondering what drinking more water has to do with sweatproofing your makeup longevity... Well, it’s important to keep your body temperature cool so you inevitably end up producing less sweat and there is then less excess oil to contend with. So don't forget to hydrate regularly!

Less Is More Here

The hot weather can be unbearable, but now you can beat the heat and still look fabulous. By following these simple tips, your makeup will stay put all day long – no matter how bad the humidity gets.
